কুশা: প্রারম্ভ by Misba My rating: 4 of 5 stars প্রথম প্রথম য়্যুয়ানকে যতটা ভালো ভেবেছিলাম পরে দেখি ততটা না। আর রুয়েমকে প্রথমদিকে খুবই বিরক্তিকর লাগত, পরে দেখি আসলে তার চিন্তাধারা-কাজকর্ম বেশ মজার! যতবার অন্যদের সাথে তার কথোপকথনগুলো আসছে, কিছু কিছু জায়গায় তো রীতিমত হেসে উঠছি। আর কুশা... কুশার অতীত, তার ক্ষমতার স্বরূপ, সে কী চায় আর আদতে কী করবে, তা এখনও ধোঁয়াটে। দেখা যাক, কী হয়, কারণ বইটার নামই আভাস দিচ্ছে, তার ভূমিকা কতখানি এ গল্পে... আর এতগুলো দল/ সংঘ পরস্পরের বিরুদ্ধে বা অন্তত ভিন্ন নীতিতে বিশ্বাসী হয়ে কাজ করছে, কে কার সাথে শেষ পর্যন্ত হাত মিলায়, সেটা জানার একটা অদম্য আগ্রহ কাজ করছে। বইটার প্রায় তিন-চতুর্থাংশই শেষ। বাকিটা দ্রুত শেষ করতে মনও চাচ্ছে, আবার কীভাবে শেষ হয় (নতুন কোন রহস্য রেখে) সেটা নিয়েও ভাবনা হচ্ছে, যেহেতু এ কাহিনীটার আরও খণ্ড আসার কথা। View all my reviews

The Case of the Distressed Lady: A Short Story by Agatha Christie My rating: 3 of 5 stars Three things ---- 1. Listening to a short dramatized audio adaptation in Bangla in a long while; 2. Introduction to Radio Milan's audiobooks through this particular tale, which was decided upon precisely due to its short duration; 3. Re-read of a short story out of a well-loved classic work ["Parker Pyne Investigates"] of a favourite author after decades. ---- Had forgotten the twist completely, so got a jolt of surprise near the end of this audio-read and remembered once again why Agatha Christie is called the queen of mystery and crime. Excellent production and great work by voice actors. A must-listen for an Agatha Christie enthusiast, even if they've read this story before. View all my reviews

কথুলহু by আসিফ রুডলফায My rating: 3 of 5 stars So promising of a story. Anti-climactic ending. Extremely well-crafted, but there is no clear, good, satisfying resolution. Overall rating: 2.70 stars. The Goose Girl: A Classical Kingdoms Collection Short Retelling by Brittany Fichter My rating: 5 of 5 stars Short, sweet and intriguing from the first page. A little bit dark with a sliver of hope. A powerful and ruthless villain, outwitted by the doomed heroine to regain her happy ending (or beginning, if you think about it), with a bit of divine help and a perceptive and kind prince. I loved it when I first read it. I loved it more when I re-read it last night. As ever, I am awed again and again at the intricately woven world, carefully conceived characters and beautifully spinned tales by this author who shines with each written word she puts after much consideration and hard work into every work that I have read and those I have not, yet. I will recommend this tale of sorcery, mayhem, friendship, betrayal and romance to all who love a good fairytale retelling that first saddens, then gradually warms and in the end, soothes the heart. ...

Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray My rating: 3 of 5 stars Liked the sci-fi, adventure and romance aspects well enough. Abel, as an unprecedented being, was interesting to read about. I liked how balanced Noemi seemed to be, in all her thoughts and actions. Surprisingly, the side characters, especially Virginia, what adventures she would have, I found myself curious about. All in all, cannot wait to read the next books in this series! View all my reviews

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling My rating: 4 of 5 stars Listening to (+reading the print copy+experiencing the reading by the narrators of) the 'Harry Potter at Home' audio chapters at the moment. Each new narrator has brought something special to the read. A very... unique experience for me. I keep remembering what it felt like to read the translated version for the first time. সন্ধান by হুজুর হয়ে টিম My rating: 5 of 5 stars "সন্ধান" is a series of stories of someone called সন্ধানী (literal translation: Seeker) who has a lot of questions about faith and is always seeking answers. Shortly after taking the photo of my mid-review, I finished reading the book, so here are my afterthoughts: Along with the main character, I, too, got to learn about several debated or interesting topics and much more about ourselves as human beings on this journey towards the truth. I can't thank them enough, the author(s) and all the people related to the project to bring this book to publication and consequently, to us, the readers. I have not rated a book 5 out of 5 stars in a long while. If I could, I would give it a 6 out of 5, if only for the brilliantly clever and wise way the themes and stories were organized. I do have mixed feelings about the ending, but I really do hope the stories continue. View all my review...
